After delivering successful singing taster sessions for The Cultural Spring, we were asked us to deliver regular singing sessions in Whitburn, Sunderland.
Led by Jane Lindenberg, the workshops helped participants find and explore their singing voices through group activities and arrangements of contemporary music, including pop, soul, gospel and funk. All ages and abilities were welcome, and numbers grew rapidly, creating a welcoming and friendly singing group.
In just two years, the group got a number of performances under their belts, including two consecutive Summer Streets Festivals, and performing alongside Sunderland band Hyde and Beast, at The Journal Culture Awards 2014, held at Sunderland Minster.
The group are now led by Lindsay Hannon, and in January 2017 became an independent constituted group, renaming themselves Whitburn a Capella.
New members are always welcome. You don’t need to be able to read music; the emphasis is on fun, lifting spirits and singing together, for the love of it!
Whitburn a Capella meet on Tuesday evenings 7.15 – 8.45pm at Whitburn Methodist Church Hall. For more information contact Sherrie Mckean on 0771 301 1248.
