The Soldier's Return at the Royal Television Society Awards

At the Royal Television Society (North East and the Border) Awards in Gateshead on 26th February, Opera Sunderland’s video production of 'The Soldier’s Return' by Marcos Fernandez Barrero and Jacob Polley was one of only three nominees in the special category “Pandemic innovation - Drama.” This was Opera Sunderland’s first venture into film, as we were unable to stage a live performance of this specially-commissioned opera due to the Pandemic. In the end, the award went to ITV’s blockbuster crime series, ‘Vera’- but we felt delighted with a nomination at such a high level.
