At Opera Sunderland, we want to build ourselves back up after the challenges of covid, revive and renew our community engagement across all ages and captivate a new audience. We want to uncover and celebrate the unknown history of community opera in Sunderland with a regular podcast, delving into opera stories in our area. We want to hear your stories and create new collaborations of partnership working in Sunderland. And we want to celebrate our successes from the past to inspire our future by targeting social isolation, coming together to celebrate across generations with live podcast episodes. We need your help to fund our community podcast project and beyond, and to play a small part of the future of opera in Sunderland.
What we'll deliver:
- Deliver 10 episodes of Opera Stories a community podcast project
- Engage marketing and communication support to promote our work
- Hire space and equipment to hold a celebration event for community cast and supporters
- Engage administration and fundraising support to ensure our future
Why it's a great idea:
The podcast will uncover the untold story of community and professional opera in Sunderland in the late 20th century. We will capture these precious oral histories before they are lost, and by delving into our heritage we can inform and engage future participants and audiences to experience the transformative power of opera. Our podcast will also engage former community cast members of our successful projects in the past - MIRACLE (2015) and A Soldier's Return (2020), to share their stories and experiences. Podcast audiences will learn and find out how to engage and participate with us. The celebration live podcast event will bring together generations of participants, launch a new era for Opera Sunderland targeting social isolation and capturing live oral h istories and testimonies. The creation of a fixed term role will bring employment to the area and bring about a lasting legacy to rebuild our company well into the future.
Steps to get it done:
- Deliver a community podcast
- Engage an administrator, art director, marketing and communications
- Deliver live podcast episode to celebrate and reduce social isolation
