An Opera for Sunderland Professional Casting

Opera Sunderland is seeking 4 professional operatic soloists for key roles in our forthcoming production An Opera for Sunderland.

We have commissioned critically acclaimed and award winning North East author David Almond, and multi-disciplinary composer Marcos Fernandez to create An Opera for Sunderland. It will premiere in Sunderland Minster 27 – 29 November 2015, performed by an intergenerational community cast with key roles by professional performers. We are looking for skilled, passionate performers who share our ethos of supporting community performers to have a positive experience of opera, within a supportive and nurturing environment.

Angelo
An angel descended to earth in the form of a footballer, to save the fortunes of a failing team.
Voice type – lyric tenor.
Range – (low d – top c) strong middle range required, with a secure reliable top c.
Playing age – mid 20s. Must be athletic and move well.

Hughie Mann

Popular local footballer. A fading star, who ultimately saves the day.
Voice type – Baritone.
Range – (c-d) mainly lyrical mid-range.
Playing age – mid 30s. Must move well.

Veronica

Beloved of Angelo. A lovely local lass.
Voice type – light lyric soprano.
Range (d – top b natural) – secure mid -range singing required.
Playing age – mid 20s.

These roles are supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
