Earlier this month we were thrilled to hear that we were nominated for The Journal Culture Awards and finalists in both the Best Event Sunderland and Arts Council Award categories.
On 26 April we attended a packed out awards ceremony at Sunderland Minster, and were delighted to be announced as winners in the Best Event Sunderland category, receiving a trophy made by the Hot Studio team at National Glass Centre, Sunderland.
Both the nominations and the award we received recognise the hard work and dedication of the performers, creative, technical and administrative teams involved in creating MIRACLE! An Opera of Two Halves.
The transformative nature of opera goes beyond the moment of performance. What audiences experienced in performances of MIRACLE! was just the tip of an iceberg, supported by a team of professionals through a culmination of training, skills, preparation, professionalism and creativity. Receiving the Best Event Sunderland award acknowledges everyone involved in MIRACLE!, particularly the community participants who brought a level of commitment, enthusiasm and whole-hearted dedication that was utterly awe-inspiring and reminds us all why we do this.
The Journal Culture Awards 2016 were presented in association with See It Do It Sunderland with support from Sunderland BID. A full run down of the nominees and winners is available on the Chronicle Live website.
