We are recruiting two professional singers

Our new opera has been created by award winning artists Jacob Polley & Marcos Fernandez, The Soldier’s Return is a newly commissioned companion piece to Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale; a response to the events of World War I, which premiered in 1918 and had its British premiere in 1926 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The production is being led by professional project management, production and creative teams.  It will premiere at ‘The Point’ in Sunderland on Friday 12th June, with performances on 13th and 14th. Performed by an intergenerational community cast with key roles by professional performers.  We are looking for skilled, passionate performers who share our ethos of supporting community performers to have a positive experience of opera, within a supportive and nurturing environment.


Roles

‘Voice 1’ (Tenor). Range: low A natural (just below middle c in the treble clef) up to high G#.

‘The Woman’ (Low Mezzo). Range is B flat below middle C up to G# (2x above middle c). Playing age is c50 years. Tessitura is low.

Rehearsals:           

Friday 22nd May – Saturday 30th May

Sunday 7th June –Thursday 11th June (Production week)

There is also a possibility of being needed for some (but not all) Friday nights May 1st, 8th, 15th

 

Performances:  Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, Sunday 14th June

Location:               Sunderland, North East England

Auditions

Applicants will be notified by Friday 31st January as to whether they will be progressing to the next stage.  Shortlisted applicants will be invited for audition on Monday 17th February

Those auditioning will be asked to prepare an extract from the opera (provided at notification stage), and an aria of your choice, (maximum 5 mins. duration) which should demonstrate your range and ability to project text and character effectively. Opera Sunderland will provide an accompanist.
